Ja Tawn is a freelance writer, fashion blogger and plus size model. She was discovered in
1998 by Supermodel Nina Nesbitt and Celebrity photographer Wayne “Zoom” Summerlin at a
fashion show. After being developed, Ja Tawn landed a lingerie editorial with Belle Magazine.
She than began modeling for Essence by Mail where she was asked to do her first runway show
for Madilyn Wade designer of Mad Couture. She was then signed to a major modeling agency
Ford Models NY and Wolf Models in Germany. She than began strutting the runways for
national and international clients. Some of her clients were Ashley Stewart, Lane Bryant,
Macy"s, Elder Beerman, Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdale'S, David's Bridal, Pennington’s, Catherines
and many more.
Ja Tawn has also been in major magazines Essence, Belle, Black Elegance, Very Full
Figured, Mode, Curvy Connect, Queens Size, Figure online magazines Curvysta.com, Lane
Bryant.com and Luckymag.com. She has been on 4 major covers of some of these magazines.
She was also an “extra” on several major movies and television shows.
Ja Tawn stopped modeling for a minute to pursue her passion of being a modeling booker. She
got her wish and became the booker for the Curves Division for Red Model Management NY.
While booking she met Fashion Consultant and former model Catherine Schuller. A friendship
ensued and mentoring began for Ja Tawn where she focused on styling, fashion consulting,
photography and model development. Avanti Consulting was born in 2005.
Ja Tawn began as a styling assistant to Misa Hylton Brim under Bad Boys Inc styling the Bad
Boy’s artists Faith Evans, Carl Thomas, Mary J Blige and 112. She also worked with major
modeling agencies styling their women and men development division.
Ja Tawn also enjoyed writing and wanted to be a journalist she was given the opportunity to be
a fashion writer for Fire Magazine in 2008. Brian Mapp Owner and Editor In Chief allowed Ja
Tawn to be as artistically creative with her style of journalism attending NYFW and LAFW. She
began writing and submitting her work to other online fashion outlets and was given
opportunities to cover fashion shows, beauty events and conventions.
Ja Tawn became the Fashion Editor of Fire Magazine back in 2010 and styled several covers
that featured singers Omarion, Neyo, Floetry and The Wire’s actor Lance Reddick. She
became a freelance contributing fashion writer for Fashionledge.com, Style.com, Designer Issac
Mizrahi’s (Inside Issac’s World) Mimosas and Turquoise and a Fashion Correspondent for
Examiner.com
Ja Tawn was part of a major campaign called “Love My Body” with online boutique Smart
Glamour in April 2015 . The campaign received recognition from several online publications and
major magazines i.e. Bustle, Essence, Curvysta and Plus Model Magazine. She also does
Showroom, Technical Production Fit modeling for Dockers Plus, Michael Kors Woman, Eileen
Fisher, Lee Jeans, Delta Burke Swimwear, Cremebra’lee Lingerie and Chico’s. She has been a
featured model for NBC’s Today Show, Good Day NY, The View and FOX CT.
Ja Tawn is still a freelance Fashion Correspondent for Lucky Magazine.com and Examiner.com
and Allure.com but she is devoting more of her time to her own fashion blog Curvy Chick
Confidential a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog of all things beautiful. “Beauty is subjective”
says Ja Tawn and she conveys that in her writing and photography. Curvy Chick Confidential
just hit 30k subscribers and though she is happy with this, it’s still not enough. Ja Tawn had her
first name copyrighted and wants to possibly have a fragrance with the same name or a ready
to wear clothing line for plus size women.
